As one of the founders of this regional consortium we helped bring together over 30 businesses and institutions to form ‘Bay Fusion’, a cluster dedicated to promoting the North West as a hub for fusion energy innovation and competing to become the new home for UK Atomic Energy Authority’s STEP (Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production) Reactor.
Our competition entry championed the Heysham Trimpell site as the location for the world’s first commercial-scale fusion power station, and was short-listed and highly commended, raising the profile of the technology, the local nuclear talent and the contribution of fusion in the transition to Net Zero.
